The Hopeful Hunts Project (HHP) was formed in 2012 in an effort to provide hunting opportunities for special needs youth. HHP provides hunting experiences for big game including whitetail deer, mule deer, elk, turkey, wild hogs and exotics as well as African game. Most of the hunts take place in Texas but also Colorado when applicants are issued Dream Tags by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. HHP also arranges African safaris and to a limited extent, fishing trips in Colorado and other locations.
Recipients of hunts are selected by the Board of Directors. Decisions are based on how well HHP can accommodate the applicant given their condition and preferences. Each hunt is guided by the HHP volunteer staff and hosts the youth hunter and one or both parents. In addition, limited taxidermy services are provided for each applicant.
